16 racial profiling
•• В законопроекте, внесенном в палату представителей Конгресса США, racial profiling определяется как the use by police officers of race, ethnicity, or national origin in deciding which persons should be subject to traffic stops, stops and frisks, questioning, searches, and seizures – нечто, напоминающее проверки документов у «лиц кавказской национальности» у нас в Москве. Так, Институт Гэллапа предлагает опрашиваемым такое определение racial profiling: the practice by which police officers stop motorists of certain racial or ethnic origin because officers believe that these groups are more likely than others to commit certain types of crimes. Racial profiling is wrong, and we will end it in America.
По типу racial profiling образовано словосочетание linguistic profiling – по не совсем точному определению телеканала «Эй-би-си», the growing practice of racism based on how a person’s voice sounds on the phone.

a country’s eligibility for assistance under the HIPC Initiative — приемлемость страны для получение помощи в рамках Инициативы в отношении бедных стран с высоким уровнем задолженности
1While Medicare eligibility is based on age, disability, and work history, Medicaid generally does not consider work history.
